As our client base continues to grow, the Litigation Services team looks to expand its numbers. This Forensic Accountant/Litigation Associate has a genuine interest in forensic accounting and litigation support services. There is also an expectation of a diverse experience ranging from accounting procedures for litigation engagements to the performance of business appraisal and valuation services. This individual is seeking an exciting, long-term career opportunity.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is a full-time position, with some regularly anticipated overtime hours, as case deadlines approach. For this role, you’ll need to be able to commute to Valencia, CA and be willing to work in our co-working space in Valencia 5 days per week. Typical hours for this role are 8:30am – 5:30pm, Monday – Friday.

While repetitive tasks are certainly part of this position, the tasks assigned can vary from week to week based on the needs of the business. We expect our Forensic Accountant/Litigation Associate to perform with a high level of efficiency, confidentiality, accuracy, and positivity in order to support the initiatives at Miod and Company.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Forensic Accountant will have (but are not limited to) the following primary responsibilities:

  • Perform accounting analyses required for family law litigation
  • Read, analyze, and assess the financial records
  • Prepare Gross Cash Flows, and allocations of separate and community property
  • Tracing of Assets
  • Business Valuations
  • Real Estate Apportionment; Moore Marsden, Branco, Epstein & Watts analyses
  • Preparing court exhibits: declarations, writing statements, and recommendations
  • Liaison with attorneys and clients through written and verbal communications
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree (B.S./ B.A./BSBA) in Accounting, Finance, or related field of study. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or must be qualified to sit for the CPA exam.
  • High proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint
  • Analytical – collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement data; able to identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Attention to Detail – pick up the smallest inconsistencies within a report
  • Problem Solving – identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; ability to troubleshoot and research; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; uses reason when dealing with emotional topics
  • Project Management – coordinates projects and communicates progress with manager; manages multiple, concurrent assignments; completes projects on time

A Tax Manager at Miod and Company, LLP is a role for an individual with at least 6 years of experience in a related field, performing accounting analyses required for personal and corporate tax clients. This is a full-time position with some regularly anticipated overtime hours, as deadlines approach. While repetitive tasks are certainly part of this position, the tasks assigned can vary from week to week based on the needs of the business. A Tax Manager will be successful in this role when they successfully lead team members to meet all deadlines on a timely basis, and enthusiastically demonstrate continued growth, efficiency, effectiveness, and expertise in their job.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Delegate tasks to associates and review upon completion.
  • Manage task lists and delegate to associates to ensure that all client work is completed in a timely manner.

  • Prepare and review advanced and complex corporate, partnership, individual, non-profit and trust income tax returns by collecting, analyzing, and formatting financial information.
  • Review of corporate and personal tax planning.
  • Prepare Estate tax planning, specialized partnership allocations, stock sales and ownership changes.
  • Recognize, identify, and research tax issues in order to summarize results and propose resolutions.
  • Prepare and analyze business financial statements.
  • Assist partners in consulting with closely held business and individual clients on financial and tax planning matters.
  • Interpret and understand tax law changes to assist and educate clients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in tax aspects of business transaction issues, including shareholder transactions.
  • Manage projects, workflows, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize while ensuring timely filing and reporting.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes and reviewing professional publications.
  • Manage supervisor, senior and staff workflow distribution and scheduling for maximum efficiency.
  • Facilitate in house training and development of tax accounting department.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting
  • CPA certification
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
